English translation

1079. ‘Amr bin Shu’aib reported from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ prohibited selling and purchasing (goods) in the Masjid, and that one should announce lost property in it, or recite poetry in it. And he also prohibited sitting in circles (gatherings) before the prayer on Friday. (Hasan)

Arabic text

1079 - حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنِ الشِّرَاءِ وَالْبَيْعِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، وَأَنْ تُنْشَدَ فِيهِ ضَالَّةٌ، وَأَنْ يُنْشَدَ فِيهِ شِعْرٌ، وَنَهَى عَنِ التَّحَلُّقِ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ»
