English translation

113. 'Abd Khair narrated: "I saw 'Alī being brought a chair, upon which he sat. Then a container of water was brought to him. He washed his hands three times, then performed Madmadah with the Istinshāq with the same water..." and he mentioned the Hadīth (similar to no. 112). (Ṣaḥīh)

113 - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مَالِكَ بْنَ عُرْفُطَةَ، سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ خَيْرٍ، رَأَيْتُ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ «أُتِيَ بِكُرْسِيٍّ فَقَعَدَ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِكُوزٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ تَمَضْمَضَ مَعَ الِاسْتِنْشَاقِ بِمَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ»، وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ،

Commentary

According to this Hadīth, both rinsing the mouth, and sniffing water into nostrils, may be performed with one handful of water (the same water held in the hollow of the palm).
