Text and translation

English translation

1187. It was reported from 'Urwah, from 'Aishah, that she said: "There was a solar eclipse during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ went out to led the people in prayer. He stood up, and I estimated that he had recited Sūrat Al-Baqarah due to the length of the recitation" (and she said similar) to the rest of the narration (as no. 1185): "Then he prostrated twice. Then he stood up and lengthened his recitation, and I estimated that he had recited Sūrat Al Imrān due to the length of the recitation." (Hasan)

Commentary

The length of the recitation, the bowings, and the prayer itself, will depend upon the length of the eclipse.
