English translation

1296. It was reported from ‘Abdullāh bin Al-Ĥārīth from Al-Muṭṭalib, from the Prophet ﷺ, that he said: “The prayer is (in units of) two, two — that you say the Tashahhud in every second Rak'ah. And that you show your need, and are tranquil, and raising you hands in supplication, and say: 'O Allāh! O Allāh!' So whoever does not do so, it will be deficient." (Da'if) Abū Dāwūd was asked about the (voluntary) night prayer — should it be in units of two? He replied: "If you wish, you may pray (in units of) two, and if you wish, (in units of) four."
