Text and translation

English translation

1979. It was reported from Mālik, from Nāfi', from Ibn 'Umar, that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "O Allāh! Have mercy on those who shaved their hair." They said: "O Messenger of Allāh! And those who trimmed it." He said: "O Allāh! Have mercy on those who shaved their hair." They said: "O Messenger of Allāh! And those who trimmed it." He said: "And those who trimmed it." (Ṣāḥih)

1979 - حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمِ الْمُحَلِّقِينَ»، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، وَالْمُقَصِّرِينَ؟ قَالَ: «اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمِ الْمُحَلِّقِينَ»، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، وَالْمُقَصِّرِينَ؟ قَالَ: «وَالْمُقَصِّرِينَ»

Commentary

It is better for men to get their heads shaved with a blade. This ruling does not apply to women. They shall only clip off some of their hair.
