English translation

2051. ‘Amr bin Shu‘aib narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that Marṭhad bin Abī Marṭhad Al-Ghanawī would transport captives from Makkah. And there was a prostitute in Makkah by the name of ‘Anāq, who was a friend of his. He narrated: "I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, (should I) marry 'Anāq?' But he did not say anything. Then, the Verse: And a fornicatress does not marry except a fornicator, or a pagan[1] was revealed, so he called me, recited the Verse to me, and said: 'Do not marry her.'" (Hasan)
