English translation

2757. It was reported from Abū Hurairah that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "The Imām is only a shield that is fought for." (Hasan)

Arabic text

2757 - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّازُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ جُنَّةٌ يُقَاتَلُ بِهِ»

It is, therefore, essential that all the people respect the treaties that the leader concluded with any disbelievers.
