English translation

2896. It was reported from Qatādah, from Al-Hasan, from 'Imrān bin Ḥuṣain, that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "My son's son has died, what do I get from his estate?" He said: "You will get one-sixth." When he started to go away, he called him, and said: "You also have another sixth." When he started to go away again, he called him, and said: "The other one-sixth is for food (Tu'mah)." (Da'if) Qatādah said: "They (the Companions) did not know the heirs with whom he was given (one-sixth)." Qatādah said: "The minimum share given to a grandfather is one-sixth."
