English translation

3138. It was narrated from Laith, from Ibn Shihāb, from ‘Abdur-Raḥmān bin Ka’b bin Mālik that Jābir bin ‘Abdullāh informed him, that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ would put two of the slain of Uhud together, and he would say: “Which of them had learned more Qur’ān?” If one of them was pointed out to him, he would put him into the Lahd (niche) first. And he said: “I shall be a witness for them on the Day of Resurrection.” And he ordered they they be buried with their blood, and not washed. (Sahih)

3138 - حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ، أَنَّ اللَّيْثَ، حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ الرَّجُلَيْنِ مِنْ قَتْلَى أُحُدٍ وَيَقُولُ: «أَيُّهُمَا أَكْثَرُ أَخْذًا لِلْقُرْآنِ؟» فَإِذَا أُشِيرَ لَهُ إِلَى أَحَدِهِمَا، قَدَّمَهُ فِي اللَّحْدِ، وَقَالَ: «أَنَا شَهِيدٌ عَلَى هَؤُلَاءِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ» وَأَمَرَ بِدَفْنِهِمْ بِدِمَائِهِمْ، وَلَمْ يُغَسَّلُوا،
