Theirvoices became so loud that theMessenger of Allāh ﷺ could hearthem in his house. The Messengerof Allāh ﷺ came out to them, pushing aside the curtains of hisapartment. He called Ka'b binMālik and said: "O Ka'b!" He said: [1] Aḥmad bin 'Abdul-Wāhid Ad-Dimashqī, one of the two Shaikhs the author narrated thisfrom, meaning, these are the variations in the wordings they narrated. “Here I am at your service, O Messenger of Allāh.” He gestured to him with his hand, indicating that he should waive half of the debt. Ka’b said: “I will do it, O Messenger of Allāh.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Get up and pay it off.” (Sāhih)

Commentary

The judge has the privilege to ask the contending parties to make a compromise, and decide the matter amicably, in or out of court. In financial matters, the claimant can forgive and leave his right.
