Text and translation

English translation

3641. It was narrated that Kathīr bin Qais said: "I was sitting with Abū Ad-Dardā' in the Masjid of Damascus when a man came and said: 'O Abū Ad-Dardā', I have come to you from the city of the Messenger ﷺ (Al-Madinah) for a Hadith which I have heard that you narrated from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, and I have not come for any other purpose.' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: "Whoever travels a road seeking knowledge thereby, Allāh will cause him to travel one of the roads of Paradise. The angels lower their wings in approval of the seeker of knowledge. Those who are in the heavens and on earth, and the fish in the depths of the water, pray for forgiveness for the knowledgeable person. The superiority of the scholar over the worshiper is like the superiority of the moon, on the night when it is full, over all other heavenly bodies. The scholars are the heirs of the Prophets. The Prophets did not leave behind Dinars or Dirhams, rather they left behind a heritage of knowledge, and the one who acquires it acquires an abundant portion.” (Da'if)
