Text and translation

English translation

3646. It was narrated that ‘Abdullāh bin ‘Amr said: “I used to write down everything that I heard from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, wanting to memorize it, but the Quraish told me not to do that, and said: ‘Do you write down everything you hear from him? The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ is human, and speaks when he is angry, and when he is content.’ So I stopped writing things down. I mentioned that to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, and he pointed to his mouth with his finger and said: ‘Write, for by the One in Whose Hand is my soul, nothing comes out of it but the truth.’” (Ṣaḥīḥ)

Allāh said: And he does not speak from his desires. It is but a revelation revealed. (An-Najm 53:4,5)
