English translation

384. Mūsā bin ‘Abdullāh bin Yazīd narrated from a woman from the tribe of Banū ‘Abdul-Ashhal who said: “O Messenger of Allāh! There is a path to the Masjid which is dirty, so what should we do if it rains?" He said, "Is there not a path after it that is cleaner than it?" She said: "Yes, of course." So he said: "Then this (suffices) for that." (Sahih)

Commentary

If the foot, shoe or part of the garment gets defiled with some impure dirt etc., it can be cleaned and purified by rubbing on the clean ground. If the substance is in liquid form, like urine or anything else like it, the garment, foot or shoe must be washed with water. (See the following chapter.)
