4641. It was narrated that 'Awf said: "I heard Al-Ḥajjāj delivering a speech and he said: 'The likeness of 'Uthmān before Allāh is that of 'Eisā bin Maryam.' Then he recited, and explained this Verse: And (remember) when Allāh said: O 'Eisā! I will take you and raise you to Myself, and clear you of those who disbelieve,[1] pointing to us and to the people of Ash-Shām with his hand.[2] (Hasan)
4641 - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو ظَفَرٍ عَبْدُ السَّلَامِ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرٌ، عَنْ عَوْفٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْحَجَّاجَ، يَخْطُبُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: " إِنَّ مَثَلَ عُثْمَانَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ يَقْرَؤُهَا وَيُفَسِّرُهَا {إِذْ قَالَ اللَّهُ يَا عِيسَى إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ، وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَيَّ، وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا} [آل عمران: 55] يُشِيرُ إِلَيْنَا بِيَدِهِ وَإِلَى أَهْلِ الشَّامِ "
