4666. It was narrated that Qais bin 'Ubād said: "I said to 'Ali: 'Tell us about this march of yours (against Mu'awiya). Did the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ enjoin it upon you, or is it your own opinion?' He said: 'The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ did not enjoin anything upon me; rather it is my own opinion.'" (Sahih)
4666 - حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْهُذَلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِعَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: أَخْبِرْنَا عَنْ مَسِيرِكَ هَذَا أَعَهْدٌ عَهِدَهُ إِلَيْكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمْ رَأْيٌ رَأَيْتَهُ فَقَالَ: «مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِشَيْءٍ وَلَكِنَّهُ رَأْيٌ رَأَيْتُهُ»
