English translation

4781. It was narrated that Sulaimān bin Ṣurad said: "Two men reviled one another in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ and the eyes of one of them started to turn red, and his jugular vein began to swell. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: 'I know a word which, if this man said it, that which he is feeling would go away: "A'ūdhu billāhi min ash-shaitānir-raḵīm (I seek refuge with Allāh from the accursed Shaitān).'" The man said: "Do you think I am possessed?" (Ṣaḥīḥ)

Commentary

Extreme anger over personal matters is from the promptings of Shaitān, while anger for the sake of Allāh is part of faith.
