English translation

4967. It was narrated that Muḥammad bin Al-Ḥanafīyyah said: 'Alī said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, if I have a son after you have gone, I will call him by your name; can I call him by your Kunyah too?' He said: 'Yes.'" (Hasan)

Arabic text

4967 - حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ ابْنَا أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ فِطْرٍ، عَنْ مُنْذِرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ ابْنِ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ، قَالَ: قَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنْ وُلِدَ لِي مِنْ بَعْدِكَ، وَلَدٌ أُسَمِّيهِ بِاسْمِكَ وَأُكَنِّيهِ بِكُنْيَتِكَ؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ» وَلَمْ يَقُلْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ «قُلْتُ» قَالَ: قَالَ عَلِيٌّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
