English translation

4972. It was narrated that Abū Qilābah said: “Abū Mas’ūd said to Abū ‘Abdullāh, or Abū ‘Abdullāh said to Abū Mas’ūd: ‘What did you hear the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say about saying “they claim?”’ He said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: “What a bad way, for a man to say, ‘they claim.’”’ (Sahih) Abū Dāwūd said: This Abū ‘Abdullāh is Hudhaifah.

4972 - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَوْ قَالَ: أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ لِأَبِي مَسْعُودٍ مَا سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: فِي «زَعَمُوا؟» قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «بِئْسَ مَطِيَّةُ الرَّجُلِ زَعَمُوا» قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ: " أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ هَذَا: حُذَيْفَةُ "
