English translation

5164. It was narrated that Al- 'Abbas bin Julaid Al-Hajri said: I heard 'Abdullãh bin 'Umar say: A man came to the Prophet , and said: "0 Messenger of Allah how often should I forgive a servant?" And he remained silent, then he repeated the words, and he remained silent. The third time, he said: "Forgive him seventy times each day." (Hasan)

5164 - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثُ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ وَهُوَ أَتَمُّ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ، عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ جُلَيْدٍ الْحَجْرِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، كَمْ نَعْفُو عَنِ الْخَادِمِ؟ فَصَمَتَ، ثُمَّ أَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ الْكَلَامَ، فَصَمَتَ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ، قَالَ: «اعْفُوا عَنْهُ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً»
