74. Ibn Mughaffal narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ had (initially) ordered that all dogs be killed, then he said: "What have they (the people) got to do with them (the dogs)?" So he granted them (permission to keep) hunting dogs, and sheep dogs. He also said: "If a dog licks from a container, then wash it seven times, then rub it with earth on the eighth."(Sahih) Abū Dāwūd said: And this is the wording of Ibn Mughaffal.
74 - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو التَّيَّاحِ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «مَا لَهُمْ وَلَهَا»، فَرَخَّصَ فِي كَلْبِ الصَّيْدِ، وَفِي كَلْبِ الْغَنَمِ وَقَالَ: «إِذَا وَلَغَ الْكَلْبُ فِي الْإِنَاءِ فَاغْسِلُوهُ سَبْعَ مِرَارٍ، وَالثَّامِنَةُ عَفِّرُوهُ بِالتُّرَابِ»، قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ: وَهَكَذَا قَالَ ابْنُ مُغَفَّلٍ
