English translation

969. It was reported from Sharik, from Abū Ishāq, from Abū Al-Ahwas, from 'Abdullāh who said: "We did not use to know what to say when we sat during the prayer, and the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ had been taught..." and he mentioned a similar narration to the previous one. Sharik said: "Jāmi' — meaning Ibn Shaddād — from Abū Wā'il, from 'Abdullāh" with similar. He said: "And he would also teach us other words, but he would not teach them (as strictly) as he would teach us the Tashah-hud: 'Allāhumma, allaf baina qulūbinā, wa aṣlah dhāta baininā, wahdinā sublus-salāmi, wa najjinā min az-zulumāti ilan-nūri, wa jannibnāl-fawāhisha mā zahara minhā wa mā baṭan, wa bārik lanā fī asmā'inā, wa abṣārinā, wa qulūbinā wa azwājinā, wa dhuṛiyātīnā, wa tub 'alainā innaka antat-tawwābur-rahīm, wāj'alnā shākīrīna lini'matika, muthnīna bihā, qābilihā wa atimmahā 'alainā' (O Allāh! Reconcile between our hearts, and establish good relations between us, and guide us to the path of peace, and save us from darkness (and guide us) to light, and cause us to avoid lewd deeds — those which are public and those which are private, and bless us in our hearing, and seeing, and hearts, and spouses, and children, and accept our repentance; verily, You are At-Tawāb (The One Who Continually accepts Repentance), Ar-Raḥīm (The Ever-Merciful). And make us thankful of You blessings, praising them, accepting them (from You), and perfect them for us.)” (Saḥīḥ)

969 - حَدَّثَنَا تَمِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْتَصِرِ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ يُوسُفَ، عَنْ شَرِيكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: كُنَّا لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ إِذَا جَلَسْنَا فِي الصَّلَاةِ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ عُلِّمَ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ، قَالَ شَرِيكٌ: وَحَدَّثَنَا جَامِعٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي شَدَّادٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، بِمِثْلِهِ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ يُعَلِّمُنَا كَلِمَاتٍ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُعَلِّمُنَاهُنَّ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا التَّشَهُّدَ: «اللَّهُمَّ أَلِّفْ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِنَا، وَأَصْلِحْ ذَاتَ بَيْنِنَا، وَاهْدِنَا سُبُلَ السَّلَامِ، وَنَجِّنَا مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ، وَجَنِّبْنَا الْفَوَاحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي أَسْمَاعِنَا وَأَبْصَارِنَا وَقُلُوبِنَا وَأَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا، وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ، وَاجْعَلْنَا شَاكِرِينَ لِنِعْمَتِكَ، مُثْنِينَ بِهَا، قَابِلِيهَا وَأَتِمَّهَا عَلَيْنَا»،
