Text and translation

English translation

998. It was reported from Waki', from Mis'ar, from 'Ubaidullāh bin Al-Qubṭiyyah, from Jābir bin Samurah, who said: "We used to pray behind the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and give the Taslīm by motioning with our hands to the one who was on his right, and to the one who was on his left. (Once) when (the Prophet ﷺ) finished the prayer, he said: 'Why do you motion with your hands, as if they are tails of agitated horses? It is sufficient for you — or: is it not sufficient for you — that you do like this' — and he pointed with his finger,[1] '(and that) he gives the Salām to his brother; the one to his right, and the one to his left.'" (Sahih)
