Text and translation

English translation

1593. Ibn 'Umar narrated that 'Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭāb, may Allāh be pleased with him, donated a horse for the sake of Allāh, and he then subsequently found it being sold, so he wished to purchase it. He asked the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ about this, who responded: "Do not purchase it, and do not take back your charity." (Ṣaḥīh)

Commentary

One should not desire the thing one has given away for the love of Allāh. Rather, one should hope for reward from Allāh for the charity.
