English translation
1623. Abū Hurairah narrated: "The Prophet ﷺ sent 'Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭāb, may Allāh be pleased with him, to collect the Sadaqah, but Ibn Jamīl, Khālid bin Al-Walīd, and Al-'Abbās all refused to give it. So the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: 'What is the excuse of Ibn Jamīl except that he was poor, and then Allāh made him rich? And as for Khālid bin Al-Walīd, then you have wronged Khālid! For indeed, he has given his armor and weaponry as a continual charity in the way of Allāh. And as for Al-'Abbās, the uncle of the Prophet ﷺ, then it is upon me, and a similar amount as well! Do you not realize that the paternal uncle of a person is just like a father' or 'just like his father?'" (Saḥīḥ)
