2542. It was reported from 'Utbah bin 'Abd As-Sulamī, that he heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ saying: "Do not clip the forelocks, manes, or tails of horses. For they use their tails to drive away flies, and their manes provide them with warmth, and the goodness is tied in their forelocks." (Da'if)
2542 - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو تَوْبَةَ، عَنِ الْهَيْثَمِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا خُشَيْشُ بْنُ أَصْرَمَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ نَصْرٍ الْكِنَانِيِّ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، وَقَالَ: أَبُو تَوْبَةَ، عَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ شَيْخٍ، مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ عَبْدٍ السُّلَمِيِّ، وَهَذَا لَفْظُهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «لَا تَقُصُّوا نَوَاصِي الْخَيْلِ، وَلَا مَعَارِفَهَا، وَلَا أَذْنَابَهَا، فَإِنَّ أَذْنَابَهَا مَذَابُّهَا، وَمَعَارِفَهَا دِفَاؤُهَا، وَنَوَاصِيَهَا مَعْقُودٌ فِيهَا الْخَيْرُ»
