English translation
2999. Yazīd bin 'Abdullāh said: "We were in Al-Mirbad, and a man with dishevelled hair came, with a piece of red leather in his hand. We said: 'It is as if you are one of the people of the desert?' He said: 'Yes.' We said: 'Give us this piece of leather that is in your hand.' He gave it to us, and we read what was on it. It said: 'From Muḥammad the Messenger of Allāh to Banū Zuhair bin Uqaiṣ. If you bear witness that 'none has the right to be worshiped but Allāh, and that Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allāh, establish the Ṣalāt, pay the Zakāt, pay the Khumus from the spoils of war, and give the share of the Prophet ﷺ and the special portion (Aṣ-Ṣaṭi), then you will be protected with the protection of Allāh and His Messenger.' We said: 'Who wrote this document for you?' He said: 'The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ.'" (Ṣaḥīh)
