English translation

3173. It was narrated from the son of Abū Sa'eed Al-Khudrī that his father said: "The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: 'If you follow a Janāzah, do not sit down until it is put down.'" (Sahīh) Abū Dāwūd said: Ath-Thawrī narrated this Hadīth from Suhail, from his father, from Abū Hurairah, and he said in it: "Until it is placed on the ground." Abū Mu'āwiyah narrated it from Suhail, and he said: "Until it is placed in the Lahd." Abū Dāwūd said: Sufyān had a better memory than Abū Mu'āwiyah.

3173 - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سُهَيْلُ بْنُ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِذَا تَبِعْتُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَلَا تَجْلِسُوا حَتَّى تُوضَعَ»، قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ: رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ فِيهِ: «حَتَّى تُوضَعَ بِالْأَرْضِ» ، وَرَوَاهُ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ، قَالَ: «حَتَّى تُوضَعَ فِي اللَّحْدِ» قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ: «وَسُفْيَانُ أَحْفَظُ مِنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ»
