Text and translation

English translation

3275. It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbās that two men referred a dispute to the Prophet ﷺ and the Prophet ﷺ asked the plaintiff for proof, but he did not have any proof. So he asked the defendant to swear an oath, and he swore by Allāh besides Whom there is none worthy of worship. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "No, you did it, but you have been forgiven because of the sincerity with which you said there is none worthy of worship but Allāh." (Hasan) Abū Dāwūd said: What is understood from this Hadīth is that he did not tell him to offer any expiation.
