Text and translation

English translation

3631. It was narrated from Ismā'īl, from Bahz bin Hākīm, from his father, from his grandfather – Ibn Qudāmah[1] said: "that his brother or paternal uncle" Mu'ammal[2] said: "that he" – "stood up when the Prophet ﷺ was delivering a Khuṭbah and said: 'My neighbors – why are they being detained?' He turned away from him twice, then he mentioned something, and the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Let his neighbors go.'" Mu'ammal did not mention: "When he was delivering a Khutbah." (Hasan)

Footnotes

  1. 1

[1] Muḥammad bin Qudāmah, one of the two from whom Abū Dāwūd heard the narration.

  2. 2

[2] He is the other Shaikh of Abū Dāwūd in this narration, and the meaning is, they narrated it with these variations. And it appears that the distinction is between it being about Bahz's grandfather, or about his brother or paternal uncle.

Commentary
