3729. It was narrated that ‘Abdullāh bin Busr from Banū Sulaim said: “The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ came to my father and stayed with him, and he offered him food” – and he mentioned Hais that he brought to him. “Then he brought him a drink and he drank it, then he passed it to the one who was on his right. He ate some dates and put the date stones on the back of his forefinger and middle finger. When he stood up, my father stood up and took hold of the reins of his mount and said: ‘Supplicate to Allāh for me.’ He said: ‘Allāhumma, bārik lahum fīmā razaqtahum, waghfirlahum wārḥamhum’ (O Allāh, bless them in what You have provided for them and forgive them and have mercy on them.)” (Ṣaḥīḥ)

Commentary
This narration indicates that the Prophet ﷺ did not put the date seed in the same plate from which he was eating, perhaps being against proper manners.
