Text and translation

English translation

3822. Jābir bin ‘Abdullāh said: “The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: ‘Whoever eats garlic or onion, let him keep away from us’ – or ‘let him keep away from our Masjid – and let him stay at home.’ A Badr (dish) of green vegetables was brought to him and he noticed an odor, so he asked, and was told of what vegetables were in it. He said: ‘Offer it’ – to one of his Companions who was with him – but when he (the Companion) saw (that the Prophet ﷺ did not like it), he did not want to eat it. He said: ‘Eat, for I converse with one with whom you do not converse.’” (Sāḥih) Aḥmad bin Sāliḥ (one of the narrators) said: “A Badr’ Ibn Wahb (one of the narrators) explained it: ‘A dish.’”
