Text and translation

English translation

3845. It was narrated from Anas bin Mālik that when the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ ate food he would lick his three fingers. He said: "If the morsel of any one of you falls down, let him remove the dirt from it and eat it, and not leave it for the Shaitān." And he told us to clear the plate, and said: "One of you does not know in which part of the food the blessing lies." (Sāḥih)

Commentary

According to this narration, and in the light of next narration, after finishing the meal, licking the fingers is Sunnah. If a morsel of food drops on the ground, after cleaning it can be used.
