3974. It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "The Muslims met a man who had a small flock of sheep with him, and he said 'As- Salamu 'Alaikum (peace be upon you)' to them, but they killed him, and took that small flock of sheep. Then the following was revealed: and say not to anyone who greets you: 'You are not a believer'; seeking the perishable goods of the worldly life'1 , referring to that small flock of sheep."
3974 - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: " لَحِقَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ رَجُلًا فِي غُنَيْمَةٍ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَقَتَلُوهُ، وَأَخَذُوا تِلْكَ الْغُنَيْمَةَ فَنَزَلَتْ {وَلَا تَقُولُوا لِمَنْ أَلْقَى إِلَيْكُمُ السَّلَامَ لَسْتَ مُؤْمِنًا تَبْتَغُونَ عَرَضَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا} [النساء: 94] تِلْكَ الْغُنَيْمَةَ "
