4289. The story of the army that will be swallowed up by the earth was narrated from 'Ubaidullāh Ibn Al-Qibṭiyah, from Umm Salamah, from the Prophet ﷺ. I said: “O Messenger of Allāh, what about the one who is forced (to join that army)?” He said: “They will all be swallowed up, but on the Day of Resurrection each one will be raised according to his intention.” (Sahīh)
4289 - حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ رُفَيْعٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ابْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، بِقِصَّةِ جَيْشِ الْخَسْفِ، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَكَيْفَ بِمَنْ كَانَ كَارِهًا؟ قَالَ: «يُخْسَفُ بِهِمْ، وَلَكِنْ يُبْعَثُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى نِيَّتِهِ»

This indicates that Allāh may punish a people, and those who are good among them will also suffer from that punishment, while each of them will be judged in the Hereafter according to their intentions.
