English translation

4637. It was narrated from Samurah bin Jundab that a man said: "O Messenger of Allāh, I saw a bucket hanging from the sky. Abū Bakr came and took hold of its handles and drank a little, then 'Umar came and took hold of its handles and drank his fill, then 'Uthmān came and took hold of its handles and drank his fill. Then 'Alī came and took hold of its handles but it tipped, and some of the water spilled on him." (Hasan)

Commentary

These narrations indicate the virtue of these Khalifahs, and that these virtues were well known and recognized prior to the death of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ.
