4700. It was narrated that Abū Ḥafṣah said: “‘Ubādah bin Aṣ-Ṣāmit said to his son: ‘O my son, you will never find the true taste of faith, until you understand that whatever befalls you would never miss you, and whatever misses you could never befall you. I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: “The first thing that Allāh created was the Pen, and He said to it: ‘Write!’ It said: ‘What shall I write?’ He said: ‘Write the decrees of all things until the Hour begins.’” O my son, I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: “Whoever dies believing anything other than that, he has nothing to do with me.” (Sahih)
