480. Abū Sa’eed Al-Khudrī narrated: “The Prophet ﷺ liked ‘Arājīn,[2] and he would always have some in his hand. Once, he entered the Masjid, and saw some phlegm in the direction of the Qiblah. He scraped it away, then turned around angrily and faced the people. He said: ‘Does one of you like that he be spat on in his face? When one of you faces the Qiblah, then he turns to face his Lord, Exalted and Glorified is He, and the angel is on his right side. So let him not spit towards his right, nor towards his Qiblah, but let him spit on his left, or under his foot. If he is overcome (and must spit quickly), then let him do like this,” and Ibn ‘Ajlān (the narrator) demonstrated for us that he should spit in his garment, then rub it into the garment. (Sahih)
