English translation

4990. It was narrated that Bahz bin Ḥakīm said: "My father narrated to me that his father said: "I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: 'Woe to the one who speaks and tells lies in order to make the people laugh; woe to him, woe to him.'" (Hasan)

Arabic text

4990 - حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ بَهْزِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «وَيْلٌ لِلَّذِي يُحَدِّثُ فَيَكْذِبُ لِيُضْحِكَ بِهِ الْقَوْمَ، وَيْلٌ لَهُ وَيْلٌ لَهُ»
