It was narrated from Ibn Buraidah, from his father, that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever says when morning or evening comes, 'Allāhumma anta rabbi lā ilāha illā anata, khalaqtani wa ana 'abduka wa ana 'alā 'ahdika wa wa'dika mastātu, a'udhu bika min sharī mā šana'tu, abuw'u [laka] bini'matika wa abuw'u bidhanbī, faghfirlī innahu lā yaghfirudh-dhunūba illā anta (O Allāh, You are my Lord, there is none worthy of worship but You; You created me, and I am Your slave, and I hold to Your covenant as much as I can, and I believe in Your promise. I seek refuge with You from the evil of that which I have done, I acknowledge Your blessing [to You], and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for there is none who forgives sins but You),' if he dies that day or that night, he will enter Paradise.” (Ṣaḥīḥ)

Commentary

In another version, narrated by Shaddād bin ‘Aws, (Al-Bukhārī no. 6306). The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ called this supplication Sayyid ul-Istighfār (the master supplication for forgiveness).
