5113. It was narrated from 'Āšim Al-Aḥwal: Abū 'Uthmān narrated to me, he said: Sa'd bin Mālik narrated to me, he said: "My ears heard and my heart understood it from Muḥammad ﷺ, when he said: 'Whoever knowingly claims to belong to someone other than his father, Paradise will be forbidden for him.'" I met Abū Bakrah and mentioned that to him and he said: 'My ears heard and my heart understood it from Muḥammad ﷺ.'" ‘Āšim said: “I said: ‘O Abū ‘Uthmān, two men bore witness in your presence, which two men?’ He said: ‘One of them was the first person to shoot an arrow in the cause of Allāh, or in Islam,’” meaning, Sa’d bin Mālik; “and the other came from Aṭ-Ṭā’if with twenty-odd men on foot,” and he spoke of their virtues. (Saḥīḥ) Abū Dāwud said: “An-Nufaili said – when he narrated this Hadīth: “By Allāh! It is sweeter to me than honey.” Meaning, his saying: “It was narrated to us” and “It was narrated to me.” Abū Dāwud said: I heard Aḥmad saying: “There is no light for the Hadīth of the people of Al-Kūfah.” He said: “And I have not seen the likes of the people of Al-Baṣrah, they learned that from Shu’bah.”[1]

Commentary

Altering one’s lineage (genealogy) is unlawful in Islam. Adopting children is allowed, but the rights of the parents cannot be changed.
