English translation
5241. Ḥassān bin Ibrāhīm narrated: "I asked Hishām bin 'Urwah about cutting down lote-trees, while he was leaning against the palace of 'Urwah." He said: "Do you see these doors and panels? They are made from the lote-trees of 'Urwah, which 'Urwah used to cut from his land." And he said: "There is nothing wrong with it." Humaid (one of the narrators) added: "Then he said: 'O 'Iraḳī, you have brought me an innovation.' I said: 'Rather the innovation comes from you. I heard someone say in Makkah: "The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ cursed the one who cuts down lote-trees" – then he quoted a similar report. (Hasan)
