English translation
5257. It was narrated from Ibn 'Ajlān, from Ṣaifi Abī Sa'eed, the freed slave of the Anṣār, from Abū As-Sā'ib, who said: "I came to Abū Sa'eed Al-Khudrī, and while I was
sitting with him, I heard the sound of something moving under his bed. I looked and saw a snake, so I got up. Abū Sa'eed said: 'What is the matter with you?' I said: 'There is a snake there.' He said: 'What do you want to do?' I said: 'Kill it.' He pointed to a room in his house, and said: 'A cousin of mine was in this room, and on the Day of Al-Ahẓāb, he asked permission to go to his wife, for he was newly married, and the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ gave him permission, but told him to take his weapon with him. He came to his house, and found his wife standing at the door. He pointed at her with the spear, and she said: "Do not be hasty, until you see what made me come out." He entered the room and saw an ugly snake. He stabbed it with his spear, then he brought it out on the spear, quivering. I do not know which of them died first, the man or the snake. His people came to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and said: "Pray to Allāh to bring our companion back to life." He said: "Pray for forgiveness for your companion." Then he said: "Some of the jinn in Al-Madinah have become Muslim, so if you see any of them, warn him three times, then if you want to kill it, then kill it after the three (warnings)." (Sahih)
