Text and translation

English translation

685. Talḥah bin 'Ubaidullāh narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "If you place in front of you something (the size of) the back of a saddle, then whoever passes in front of you will not affect you." (Saḥīh)

Arabic text

685 - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِذَا جَعَلْتَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ مِثْلَ مُؤَخِّرَةِ الرَّحْلِ فَلَا يَضُرُّكَ مَنْ مَرَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ»

Commentary

Based upon such Aḥādīth, it is said that the Sutrah must be at least that length, or about one and a half feet high.
