4653. Narrated Ibn 'Abbās رضي الله عنهما: When the Verse: "If there are twenty steadfast persons amongst you (Muslims), they shall overcome two hundred (non-Muslims)" was revealed, it became hard on the Muslims when it became compulsory that one Muslim ought not to flee (in war) before ten (non-Muslims). So (Allāh) lightened the order by revealing: "Now Allāh has lightened your (task) for He knows that there is weakness in you. So if there are of you a hundred steadfast persons, they shall overcome two hundred (non-Muslims)..." (V.8:66) So when Allāh reduced the number of enemies which Muslims should withstand, their patience and perseverance against the enemy decreased as much as their task was lightened for them. (9) SŪRAT AT-TAUBA or BARĀ'A(The Repentance)

4653 - حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ السُّلَمِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ المُبَارَكِ، أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ خِرِّيتٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ: " لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ: {إِنْ يَكُنْ مِنْكُمْ عِشْرُونَ صَابِرُونَ يَغْلِبُوا مِائَتَيْنِ} شَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى المُسْلِمِينَ، حِينَ فُرِضَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنْ لاَ يَفِرَّ وَاحِدٌ مِنْ عَشَرَةٍ، فَجَاءَ التَّخْفِيفُ "، فَقَالَ: (الآنَ خَفَّفَ اللَّهُ عَنْكُمْ وَعَلِمَ أَنَّ فِيكُمْ ضُعْفًا، فَإِنْ يَكُنْ مِنْكُمْ مِائَةٌ صَابِرَةٌ يَغْلِبُوا مِائَتَيْنِ) قَالَ: «فَلَمَّا خَفَّفَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ مِنَ العِدَّةِ نَقَصَ مِنَ الصَّبْرِ بِقَدْرِ مَا خُفِّفَ عَنْهُمْ» سُورَةُ بَرَاءَةَ {وَلِيجَةً} [التوبة: 16]: «كُلُّ شَيْءٍ أَدْخَلْتَهُ فِي شَيْءٍ»، {الشُّقَّةُ} [التوبة: 42]: " السَّفَرُ، الخَبَالُ: الفَسَادُ، وَالخَبَالُ: المَوْتُ "، {وَلاَ تَفْتِنِّي} [التوبة: 49]: «لاَ تُوَبِّخْنِي»، {كَرْهًا} [النساء: 19] وَ {كُرْهًا} [النساء: 19]: «وَاحِدٌ»، {مُدَّخَلًا} [النساء: 31]: «يُدْخَلُونَ فِيهِ»، {يَجْمَحُونَ} [التوبة: 57]: «يُسْرِعُونَ»، {وَالمُؤْتَفِكَاتِ} [التوبة: 70]: " ائْتَفَكَتْ: انْقَلَبَتْ بِهَا الأَرْضُ " ، {أَهْوَى} [النجم: 53]: «أَلْقَاهُ فِي هُوَّةٍ»، {عَدْنٍ} [التوبة: 72]: " خُلْدٍ، عَدَنْتُ بِأَرْضٍ: أَيْ أَقَمْتُ، وَمِنْهُ: مَعْدِنٌ، وَيُقَالُ: فِي مَعْدِنِ صِدْقٍ، فِي مَنْبَتِ صِدْقٍ "، {الخَوَالِفُ} [التوبة: 87]: «الخَالِفُ الَّذِي خَلَفَنِي، فَقَعَدَ بَعْدِي، وَمِنْهُ يَخْلُفُهُ فِي الغَابِرِينَ، وَيَجُوزُ أَنْ يَكُونَ النِّسَاءُ مِنَ الخَالِفَةِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ جَمْعَ الذُّكُورِ، فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يُوجَدْ عَلَى تَقْدِيرِ جَمْعِهِ إِلَّا حَرْفَانِ فَارِسٌ، وَفَوَارِسُ وَهَالِكٌ وَهَوَالِكُ»، {الخَيْرَاتُ} [البقرة: 148]: «وَاحِدُهَا خَيْرَةٌ وَهِيَ الفَوَاضِلُ» (مُرْجَئُونَ): " مُؤَخَّرُونَ، الشَّفَا: شَفِيرٌ، وَهُوَ حَدُّهُ، وَالجُرُفُ مَا تَجَرَّفَ مِنَ السُّيُولِ وَالأَوْدِيَةِ "، {هَارٍ} [التوبة: 109]: " هَائِرٍ، يُقَالُ: تَهَوَّرَتِ البِئْرُ إِذَا انْهَدَمَتْ، وَانْهَارَ مِثْلُهُ ". {لَأَوَّاهٌ} [التوبة: 114]: " شَفَقًا، وَفَرَقًا، وَقَالَ الشَّاعِرُ: [البحر الوافر] إِذَا قُمْتُ أَرْحَلُهَا بِلَيْلٍ ... تَأَوَّهُ آهَةَ الرَّجُلِ الحَزِينِ "
