English translation
6145. Narrated Ubaī bin Ka'b: Allāh's Messenger ﷺ said, “Some poetry contains wisdom.”

What kinds of poetry, Rajaz(1) and Hudā(2) is allowed and what kinds thereof are disliked.

6145 - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو اليَمَانِ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّ مَرْوَانَ بْنَ الحَكَمِ، أَخْبَرَهُ: أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ يَغُوثَ أَخْبَرَهُ: أَنَّ أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ، أَخْبَرَهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِنَّ مِنَ الشِّعْرِ حِكْمَةً»
