1290. Narrated Abū Burda that his father said: When ‘Umar رضي الله عنه was stabbed, Suhaib started crying: “O my brother!” ‘Umar said, “Don’t you know that the Prophet ﷺ said, ‘The deceased is tortured for the weeping (with wailing) of the living?’”
1290 - حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ خَلِيلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ وَهْوَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: لَمَّا أُصِيبَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ جَعَلَ صُهَيْبٌ يَقُولُ: وَا أَخَاهُ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِنَّ المَيِّتَ لَيُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ الحَيِّ»
