English translation
1750. Narrated Al-A'mash: I heard Al-Hajjāj saying on the pulpit, "The Surah inwhich Al-Baqarah (the cow) is mentionedand the Sūrah in which the family of 'Imrān ismentioned and the Sūrah in which thewomen (An-Nisā) is mentioned." Imentioned this to Ibrāhīm, and he said,"Abdur-Raḥmān bin Yazīd told me, 'I waswith (Abdullah) Ibn Mas'ūd رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ whenhe did the Ramy of the Jamrat-ul-'Aqaba. Hewent down the middle of the valley, andwhen he came near the tree (which was nearthe Jamra) he stood opposite to it and threwseven small pebbles and said: Allāhu Akbaron throwing every pebble.' Then he said, 'ByHim, except Whom none has the right to beworshipped, here (at this place) stood theone on whom Sūrat Al-Baqarah was revealed(i.e., Allāh's Messenger ﷺ).'"
