English translation

2947. Narrated Ka'ib bin Mālik: Whenever Allāh's Messenger ﷺ intended to lead a Ghazwa, he would use an equivocation from which one would understand that he was going to a different destination.

Arabic text

2947 - حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ كَعْبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، وَكَانَ قَائِدَ كَعْبٍ مِنْ بَنِيهِ: قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ كَعْبَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ «حِينَ تَخَلَّفَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُرِيدُ غَزْوَةً إِلَّا وَرَّى بِغَيْرِهَا»
