English translation

2970. Narrated 'Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭāb رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: I gave a horse to be used in Allāh's Cause, but later on I saw it being sold. I asked the Prophet ﷺ whether I could buy it. He said, "Don't buy it and don't take back your gift of charity."

2970 - حَدَّثَنَا الحُمَيْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مَالِكَ بْنَ أَنَسٍ، سَأَلَ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَسْلَمَ، فَقَالَ زَيْدٌ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ: قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: حَمَلْتُ عَلَى فَرَسٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ يُبَاعُ، فَسَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ آشْتَرِيهِ؟ فَقَالَ: «لاَ تَشْتَرِهِ، وَلاَ تَعُدْ فِي صَدَقَتِكَ»
