English translation
3402. Narrated Abū Hurairah رضي الله عنه: The Prophet ﷺ said, "Al-Khiḍr(1) was named so, because if he sat over a barren white land, it turned green with plantation after (his) sitting over it."

3402 - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ابْنُ الأَصْبِهَانِيِّ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ المُبَارَكِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: «إِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ الخَضِرَ أَنَّهُ جَلَسَ عَلَى فَرْوَةٍ بَيْضَاءَ، فَإِذَا هِيَ تَهْتَزُّ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ خَضْرَاءَ»
